Hello, my virtual friends. Today I will talk about a very interesting topic that has to do with Hermes bags.
You know that one of my favorite categories on this website is ‘Spotting the Fake’. This article will help you understand Hermes even better. Date Stamp or Date code or Authenticity code, call it as you wish, but different bags have different date codes and this is becoming really confusing for us all.
I’ve done my research on the reason why the date stamps are different in The Real Hermes bags, and what is the reason for these changes. Let’s continue analyzing.
Hermes date stamps are markings that are placed on Hermes products to indicate the date of manufacture or the date of repair. The date stamp is typically a letter or a combination of letters and numbers that correspond to a specific year and month.
Hermes has used different date stamp formats over the years, but the most common format is a letter that corresponds to a specific year, followed by a letter that corresponds to a specific month. For example, “W” may indicate 1993, and “P” may indicate September.
Hermes uses letters in alphabetical order to date the bags, and after 1970 these letters were surrounded by a shape.
From 1940 to 1970 there was no shape used. (from 1945 starts with A and ends in alphabetic order in 1970 with Z)
From 1971 to 1996 it used a circle shape. (From 1971 with A.1972 B…1996 with Z)
From 1997 to 2014 was used a square shape. (From 1997 with A,.1998 B.., until 2014 with R)
After 2014 Hermes stopped using shapes again. No Shapes just letters(From 2015 T, 2016 X, 2017 A, 2018 C, 2019 D, 2020 Y, 2021 Z, 2022 U, 2023 B)
The square (☐) symbol is used to identify an item as being made using Alligator mississippiensis.
The (^) symbol is used when Crocodile Porosus.
The (..) symbol is used for Crocodile Niloticus.
The (-)is used for Varanus Niloticus Lizard.
The (=) sign is used for Varanus Salvator Lizard
The Horseshoe symbol used on custom Hermes product
The Shooting Star is used for the products that were created for a Hermes Craftsman’s personal use.
The Employee Stamp S is used to indicate an item that has been purchased at a discounted employee rate.
It’s important to note that not all Hermes products have date stamps, and the absence of a date stamp does not necessarily indicate that a product is not authentic. In some cases, Hermes may also use codes or other markings to indicate the date of manufacture or repair. If you are unsure about the authenticity or age of a Hermes product, it’s best to consult an expert or contact the company directly.
